-          issues annual public tenders, which are intended for funding of youth organisation and youth centre activities and funding programmes for youth and children. Tenders are meant for voluntary and non-profitable organisations; which carry out a variety of programmes intended for youth in Slovenia. These programmes are implemented in the following fields of youth work: participation, mobility, voluntary work, information and international co-operation;

-          co-finances the programme of the National Youth Council of Slovenia, umbrella organisation linking 17 non-governmental organisations for young people with various interests and outlooks or political orientations and co-operation within the framework of the Mixed Commission for youth issues, the purpose of which is the provision of information on topical issues relating to young people and the co-ordination of standpoints on all open issues;

-          encourages the development of informing and advising the young, their social integration, personal growth and autonomy, within this establishing a network of information centres throughout Slovenia and co-financing numerous organisations that work with the young or deal with youth questions;

-          develops a network of youth hostels in Slovenia and collaboration with the Slovene Tourist Association in the committee for co-ordination of the programme  "Knowledge, the young and tourism" and with the Centre for School and Extracurricular Activities;

-          co-finances programmes and projects of local youth centres and clubs. advising and helping them with mutual co-ordination and carrying out of projects and inform them about different work and creative possibilities;

-          issues an annual public tender for Local Community Youth Councils, which are responsible for youth work and youth policy on local level and are representing the interests of the young to local authorities and negotiate a share of the municipal budget intended for the young;

-          co-finances activities related to youth bonus cards EURO<26 card and Hostelling International Card which offer different discounts and other benefits and are a useful source of information on youth activities and events, discounts and interesting opportunities;

-          Under the slogan "All different – All Equal" the Office carries out multiple campaigns and helps finance youth projects which deal with issues of tolerance and diversity.

-          Promotes the Creativity of the Young with the "Ti povej!" Campaign – seeks ideas and helps realise them.

-          Promoting the possibilities of international co-operation of youth from Slovenia.

-          Organises and hosts a variety of conferences and round tables to seek solutions for current problems of the young. In numerous seminars and workshops, young experts are trained for work in youth organisations.

-          The office for Youth has an impact on implementing laws dealing with youth activities, calls attention to ineffective regulations and suggests more effective bills that have influence on the quality of life of the young in Slovenia.

-          Preparation of studies and national reports on youth issues together with the Centre for Social Psychology – Youth Studies, a research unit of the Institute for Social Sciences at the Faculty of Social Sciences (Published books: “Flying Over or Falling through Cracks? Young people in the Risk Society”; Youth 2000: Slovenian Youth at the Turn of the Third Millenium”; Social Vulnerability of Young People”; “Youth in Slovenia: New Perspectives from the Nineties”; “A Breath for Student Youth”; “Youth in the Nineties: Analysis of the Situation in Slovenia”; “The Future (Transience) of Youth”).

[Translate to English:] Eno ključnih področij delovanja Urada je omogočanje mladinskega dela in vzpodbujanje razvoja mladinske politike s podporo kvalitetnim mladinskim programom in programov za mlade, ki prispevajo k usposabljanju in pridobivanju veščin ter socialnemu vključevanju mladih. Preko sofinanciranje programov za mlade se vzpodbuja udejstvovanje mladih ter prispeva h koriščenju mladinske infrastrukture.

Urad vsako leto objavi javni razpis/poziv, katerega cilj je sofinanciranje delovanja in programov mladinskih organizacij ter mladinskih programov in programov za mlade, ki jih izvajajo za to usposobljene organizacije.
